Trading Co. Stores Raise over $8,200 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF
Spokane, WA – December 12, 2011 - Trading Co. participated as a Sneaker Partner for the 16th Annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes raising more than $8,200 for the Inland Northwest Branch. Trading Co. has participated as a Sneaker Partner since 2008 and has now raised over $27,000. The proceeds raised go towards research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications.
“This shows what a huge difference we can make working together,” said JDRF Inland Northwest Board Member and Director of Purchasing for URM Stores, Doug Titus. “My son has type 1 diabetes and wears an insulin pump 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The dollars raised by Trading Co. fund research to speed the search for a cure.”
All four Trading Co. Stores with locations in Cheney, Post Falls, and Spokane sold paper sneakers for the month of September. Paper sneakers are sold for $1 and raise funds and awareness for type 1 diabetes.
“I’d like to thank all the wonderful employees at Trading Co. for getting behind the Sneaker Sales Program. Their efforts directly impact my daughter who is living with type 1 diabetes,” said local JDRF Volunteer & Board Member, Todd Casey. “The complications of diabetes are devastating. The cutting-edge research funded by JDRF around the world is bringing us closer and closer to finding a cure for this devastating disease.”
JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. The goal of JDRF is to improve the lives of every person affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners who share this goal. Since its founding in 1970, JDRF has awarded more than $1.5 billion to T1D research. More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. Past JDRF research efforts have helped to significantly improve the care of people with this disease, and have expanded the critical scientific understanding of T1D.
